General Rules for 2009-2010 Great 48 Basketball Tournaments

(Links to Registration Page at bottom of this page)

REGISTRATION FEES: The fee for the Great 48 is $220.00 per team.  Each team is GUARANTEED a minimum of 4 GAMES PER TOURNAMENT.  Registrations must be completed online at www.Great48.com.  Online credit card payments are real time and payments are processed right away. If you choose not to pay by credit card you have the option to pay by check.  All Checks be must be received NO LATER then the Thursday before the tournament.  Receive a $5 discount per tournament for registering your team early.  Call for multiple tournament discounts!  A late fee of $10 will be assessed for those registering the Mon-Wed during the week of the tournament as schedules will have to be modified due to late entrants.

---IMPORTANT---PLAYER PARTICIPATION WAIVER: When you register your team, you will receive a confirmation email.  In the email is a link to our PLAYER PARTICIPATION WAIVER which can also be found on the upper right corner of our homepage.  I have also posted the link on one of the pages while you are registering.  Each player must have a parent sign the waiver in order to particpate in Great 48 tournaments.  Coaches: print out enough waivers for your team, have the parents sign them and give them to you.  Please mail in ALL waivers at once.  Once you have had your parents sign the waiver for their child, they won't have to sign another waiver this season as the waiver will be good for the entire 2009-2010 basketball season.  We suggest having the parents sign them at a basketball practice and give them right back to you.  This is a very easy task that will allow you not having to sign waivers for every tournament.  Thank you for your cooperation.

CONFLICTS:   Conflicts are accepted and there will be a $10 charge for any conflicts.  If a conflict is submitted, there is no guarantee that the conflict will work within the schedule therefore your spot in the tournament is not secured until bracketing is completed. Conflicts will NOT be honored for Sunday’s games. Only Friday & Saturday conflicts will be honored. The Great 48 will explore all avenues of scheduling before any team’s conflict is not taken.  It is very rare to not be able to work your conflict into the tournament.  There will only be one conflict per tournament per team allowed.

SCHEDULING & REFUNDS: We will schedule tournaments on a first come first serve basis. Paying online via credit/debit card is a fast way of getting your team’s payment in to the Great 48. REFUNDS: If your team does not get into a tournament due to lack of participation, you will be notified by Wednesday prior to the tournament and you will have the option of being refunded minus $5 for credit card merchant processing or moving to another future Great 48 tournament. If your team pulls out of a tournament for any reason you will have the option of choosing any future tournament.  Refunds will not be given to teams that drop out.

WEATHER CANCELATIONS: If weather stops or cancels a tournament, teams will be able to choose another tournament to enter.  NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN FOR WEATHER CANCELATIONS.

COACH ADMISSION: Each participating team will be allowed two (2) coaches to be admitted to the tournament free of charge. Any coach beyond the two coach limit will be charged the regular admission designated by the participating school.

SPECTATOR ADMISSION: Tournaments are fundraisers for the local high schools and admission is required.  Typically Adults will pay $5 with students paying $2 and Senior Citizens paying $1.  Children 10 and under are free.

OPEN COURTS: In the event that gym space becomes available, the Great 48 tournament directors have the option of moving a game to the available court if: the tournament is running behind due to previous games being played longer.

FORFEITED GAME: At 10 minutes past the scheduled game time a Great 48 tournament director can announce the forfeit of the team.  If a team shows up within the 10 minute span after the scheduled game time they will have 3 minutes to warm up.  In the event that a team fails to show for their designated game time the team that does show will win the game by forfeit. If the Great 48 cannot setup a practice game for that time slot, the team that showed will be reimbursed one games pay. If you are the team who did not show for a game due to any reason, you will lose the game by forfeit and will not be refunded. If you don’t show up we will attempt to be in contact with you and hopefully you will be at the remaining games. If a team does not come to the rest of the tournament, the Great 48 will do their best to schedule practice games in their place for the teams that do show. Not showing up can result in the Great 48 either not letting your team back into anymore of our tournaments or adding on an additional fee to future tournaments that you sign up for.

REFEREES: In the event that only one referee shows for a game, the game will proceed with one referee. The Great 48 has the right move one official from one game to another if they feel that it is in the best interest of the tournament. Basketball is a very intense sport. If you have a complaint, as a parent, you must have your coach fill out the complaint form.  Only coaches are allowed to fill this form out.  Great 48 staff will not field complaints from spectators or participants.  Complaints will only be heard through the Head Coach.  We have had situations where a parent will cause problems with us about an official, yelling and screaming in an unprofessional matter therefore Great 48 officials will only speak with coaches concerning referees.

SCORE CLOCK: In the event that there is a problem with either the score clock or the people running the clock, we ask that any complaints or concerns be handled in a professional matter and taken up with a tournament director. Reminder: The Great 48 tournaments are fundraisers for local high schools and often times there will be high school kids running the score clock.

TOURNAMENT BRACKETS: Tournament brackets will be pinned up on the wall in the hallway near the gym. The brackets at the main gym will be the official brackets. A good rule of thumb for coaches, players, and parents is to ALWAYS look at the bracket posted on the wall as being the official tournament bracket. In many youth tournaments a last minute change can be made based on a team pulling out of a tournament or other factors.

COACH RESPONSIBILITY: It is the responsibility of the youth coaches to check the brackets on the walls for your next game time and location. In the event that you finish early and will not be around for the evening’s games, it is the responsibility of the coaches to leave their phone numbers and contact information with a Great 48 staff member. The reason for this is because the outcome of a game on a Saturday night could determine when and where your team will play the following day.  DO NOT ASSUME the bracket is going to stay as is. Always assume that a change is going to be made and give your contact information to a Great 48 staff member.

CODE OF CONDUCT: All parents, players, and officials MUST adhere to the Great 48 Code of Conduct.  Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the tournament.  We want to foster a postitive and fun environment for the kids.

PLAYERS:  Due to prior concerns, players may only play on one team during a Great 48 tournament.  Teams also are not allowed to bring in players from other teams for championship games.
